2017 ENDWAR BIATHLON WILL BE ON SATURDAY JULY 8TH!!

The 2016 Endwar Biathlon was held on Saturday July 9th after length debate about the weather which, earlier in the week, had been predicted to include lightning, hail, frogs and locusts.  With a similarly crappy forecast for Sunday and out of town guests who weren't about to stay on for a week, we pressed ahead.  It was misty as we started and it poured as we were ending but in the middle it was cloudy, dry and (thankfully) cool.  The weather did scare off some of the guests so we fell well short of breaking the previous attendance record and only 160 noses were counted.  So we have lots of souvenir pint beer glasses left over!

During the Biathlon we avoided bees this year, had no broken bones and only one face plant.  Keith Salustro (who made his first Biathlon appearance in 1993) cruised to a two minute win over Greg Lambrecht and last year's winner Mike Carbone.  Birthday Girl Nora repeated as fastest female and was also MOST AVERAGE (which seems contradictory but these are topsy-turvy times, eh?).

In other events we had repeat winners in the Dog Dash and Ping Pong.  The basketball contest was temporarily in jeopardy as the entire pole/hoop structure fell over (Turbo had peed the thing to rust) but we were able to vamp at a neighbor's court and Ollie Lucier defeated Mary DeBisschop to take the overall win.  The band with no name (an assemblage of Northampton Funk Night players) was great and Juli Waesche sat in for a couple of blues numbers.  Two kegs were consumed (Jack's Abby Hoponius Union and Victory Prima Pils).

Frank and Belle Lad again won the "Longest Distance To Get Here" award by coming from Christchurch New Zealand.

BUT MOST OF ALL THANKS TO ALL THOSE WHO HELPED THIS YEAR - GRILLERS, EVENT MANAGERS, ETC.  AND THANKS TO THE GUESTS OF THIS YEAR AND YEARS' PAST WITHOUT WHOM THERE WOULD BE NO PARTY.

Note that we have fixed the previous Biathlon results and you can now check to see just how much slower you are now than you used to be.  Also there is a facebook page where you are encouraged to post pictures that you took...  here

And here's a great video from 2012...   here

The Endwar Biathlon is the signature event at an annual summer party of the Driscoll-Seymours.  The party takes place on the Saturday after the Fourth of July Weekend.  It was first held in 1992 to celebrate the 1st birthday of Nora Endwar Seymour (born July 4th, 1991) and has been held every year since.  At some point it stopped being Nora's birthday party and became, well, just a party.   (But we still always have a birthday cake.)

The Biathlon is a run-bike-run (second run is optional) event that nobody should take seriously but some idiots always do (to see details and previous results click here).  Registration for the Biathlon opens at 12:30pm and the event starts at 1:30pm.  There are other events as well (go here).  There are always kegs of good beer (usually one Jack's Abby Hoponius Union and one that is not an IPA), cheap wine, and burgers/hot dogs (served around 6pm).  The band will start around 4pm.  This is a pretty informal event - no, make that a very informal event - in which everyone pitches in to run the events, cook the food, etc.  Don't bring a birthday present but do bring a bike, helmet, running shoes and a sense of humor!
